The Stewrt's Bridge Dam is less than three miles down stream from it's more famous cousin - the Conklingville Dam. A web site on the history of the Conklingville Dam (see http://hamilton.nygenweb.net/history/conkdam.html ) reports that the original proponents of the dam claimed, among other benefits the dam would, “assure a minimum flow of water to improve sanitary conditions.” Wow! Instead of treating sewage, or ceasing to put sewage in the river, the proponents of this dam wanted to—in a sense—”Flush” it out to sea!!
