SPIER FALLS DAM

When it was completed in 1903, the Spier Falls Dam was the largest dam
in the world! When the gates were originally closed the river below the
dam went dry for several days while the reservoir filled. Factories in Glens
Falls and Fort Edward, that were water powered, had to shut down until
a normal flow resumed in the river.
