A dark mass of thunder clouds moves over the river near Warrensburg.
200 years ago a large storm might have produced a swell in the river that
would rapidly propagate downstream. Today hardened banks and other
adjacent paved surfaces might actually increase the water immediately
entering the river—but if impoundments behind dams are at low levels,
the surge will not be felt down river.
