Lake Tear of the Clouds, at more than 4300 feet above sea level, is higher
than all but about two dozen peaks in the Adirondacks. It is credited as
the highest source water for the Hudson River. Here we are looking down
on Lake Tear from the summit of Mount Skylight, at 4926 feet—the fourth
highest peak in the Adirondacks. Appropriately, clouds obscure Mount
Marcy and Gray Peak as they descend toward Lake Tear.
