A panorama of midtown Manhattan from the observation deck atop the
Rockefeller Center. Gray buildings on a Gray day. The New York State Department
of Environmental Conservation estimates that the adverse effects
of stormwater run off begin to appear when 10% of a watershed is
covered with surfaces that diminish the ability of stormwater to soak into
the ground. I wonder what the percentage of Manhattan is paved or covered
by buildings?
